Martin Luther’s Basics

These courses are based on what Luther believed to be the most important truths for the new Protestant church to be founded on. He asked his followers to memorize these creeds and say them every day at meals, so as to teach their children and workers the truths of the Bible, in summary ways, considering most could not read nor write.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

THIRTEEN LESSONS.. Online content in a meeting-style course.

This study of our most basic Christian Creed combines Ligonier’s Basic Training course, with the works of Martin Luther from the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, a new teaching series by Pastor Matt Chandler (Village Church), and select sermons from Pastor Alistair Begg(Truth for Life ministries).

Luther’s writings include his summary Three Articles (main sections) of the Creed and the Shorter Catechism questions he penned in 1529 to teach the new Protestant believers what the Christian faith was all about, including his helpful explanations.

This course is ALSO available as a SIX LESSON Small Group Style Course, with the teachings of Pastor Matt Chandler offered as BONUS.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

THIRTEEN LESSONS: Online content in a meeting style course.

Jesus spoke to His disciples while on earth, specifically about How To Pray. Prayer is more than a conversation between us and God. This course will help us understand critical yet simple elements we need to incorporate into our prayers.

This study covers key teachings from Luke 11 and Matthew 6 on The Lord’s Prayer, but also includes lessons on the role of God’s Providence and Prayer, a challenging lesson “Why Keep Praying?” which deals with prayers that aren’t answered for what we ask(like healing), and a full lesson on the call of the Word to “Ask, Ask, Ask”.

Luther’s writings on individual petitions along with his Catechism questions/answers are foundational to our study, along with key teachings by Drs. Al Mohler and RC Sproul of Ligonier Ministries, and Pastors Alistair Begg, Tim Keller, and Rankin WIlbourne.

This course is ALSO available as a SEVEN LESSON Small Group Style Course, mainly focused on the seven petitions of The Lord’s Prayer.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

THIRTEEN LESSONS: Online content in a meeting style course.

We will anchor our study using “Pathway to Freedom: Alistair Begg’s preaching series on how God’s laws guide our lives”. His law has been a commonly adopted list of “rights and wrongs”, with the added guidance of the writings and questions of Martin Luther, and Pastor Rankin Wilbourne. BONUS materials are from Dr. John Gerstner (RC Sproul’s mentor) series, Pastor Arthur W. Pink’s booklet, and a Westminster Larger Catechism booklet are added for deeper studies.

You’ll do a deep dive into what is perhaps the most well-known list of moral precepts in human history: The Ten Commandments. The final lesson includes Alistair’s message “Good News for Lawbreakers”, keeping grace and obedience in their proper balance.

This course is ALSO available as a SEVEN LESSON Small Group Style Course, mainly focused on summaries of the Commandments.
